Stove Top Stuffing Mix, 1 Box
Eggs, 3 Large
Black Pepper, 2 Teaspoons
Canola Oil, 4 Tablespoons
Jumbo Onion, 1 Onion
McCormick Brown Gravy Mix, 2 Packets
Water, 2 1/2 Cups
Optional: French's Crispy Fried Onions
Optional: Green Onions
Directions

Ingredients for Hamburger Steak

  • 2 1/2 pounds ground beef, 80/20 or ground bison
  • 1 box Stove Top Stuffing mix
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper, freshly cracked
  • 2 tablespoons canola oil (for cooking)

Ingredients for Onion Gravy

  • 1 piece jumbo onion, julienned
  • 2 tablespoons canola oil (for cooking)
  • 2 packet McCormick Brown Gravy Mix (0.87 oz)
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper, freshly cracked
  • 2 1/2 cups water

Optional Ingredients

  • French's Crispy Fried Onions
  • Green onion, sliced

Directions

Making the Hamburger Steak

  1. Place ground beef into a large mixing bowl.
  2. Crush stuffing mix in a food processor or a zip-lock bag and add to the ground beef along with the eggs.
  3. Using gloves, combine the ground beef, stuffing mix, black pepper, and eggs until thoroughly mixed.
  4. Form the mixture into 8 equal-sized patties (about 6 oz each).
  5. Place patties in the refrigerator to set for about 10 minutes.

Making the Onion Gravy

  1. In a saute pan, heat canola oil over medium heat. Add sliced onion and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned and translucent.
  2. In a separate pot, add in 2 1/2 cups of cold water along with the brown gravy mix and heat while stirring until it begins to boil.
  3. Season the gravy with black pepper, then stir in the sauteed onions. Remove from heat and set aside.

Bringing it all together

  1. Preheat a saute pan over medium-high heat with canola oil.
  2. Cook the patties in batches to avoid crowding the pan. Sear each side for about 3 minutes.
  3. Add the prepared onion gravy, bring to a simmer, and cook until the patties reach an internal temperatue of 165F and the gravy thickens slightly.
  4. Serve with white rice and garnish with sliced green onion and fried onions. Optionally, you can add a fried egg for a hearty loco moco.
