Ingredients
Beef Chuck, Tri Tip, Flank, or Similar Cut, 1 Pound
Korean Pear, 1/2 Each
Water, 1 Tablespoon
Soy Sauce, 2 Tablespoons
Brown Sugar, 2 Tablespoons
Sesame Oil, 1 Tablespoon
Garlic, 2 Cloves (optional)
Green Onion, 1 Bunch (optional)
Black Pepper, 1/2 Teaspoon (optional)
Directions

Ingredients

  • 1 pound beef chuck, tri-tip, flank, or similar cut
  • 1/2 each Korean pear
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
  • 1 bunch green onion (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper (optional)

Directions

  1. Slice the meat thinly across the grain, you may ask your butcher to do this step.
  2. Grate the Korean pear and thinly slice the whites of the green onion.
  3. Combine the water, soy sauce, and brown sugar and stir until the sugar has melted, then add the rest of the ingredients.
  4. Allow the beef to marinate for at least 4 hours, but best overnight. The Korean pear will not only add sweetness, but it will also help to tenderize the meat.
  5. Place ingredients into a pan and cook until all the liquid has evaporated, and the meat is fully cooked. Be sure to taste the meat as it cooks since the flavor will intensify as the liquid evaporated. Stop the cooking process to suit your taste.
  6. Use any remaining liquid as a sauce if you desire.
